Peter Doig at Michael Werner Gallery, London

The Michael Werner Gallery is set to launch its new location in London on 27 September with an exhibition by Peter Doig.

ArtSmacked is a huge fan of the contemporary figurative painter whose work “captures a world between the real and the imagined,” to quote from our own review based on Doig’s last London appearance at Tate in 2008.

One of Britain’s top contemporary artists, Scottish-born Doig was raised in Canada and has lived in Trinidad since 2002, though he does maintains a studio in London. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994,  he’s already had a retrospective at Tate and in 2014 he will exhibit at the National Gallery of Scotland followed by another retrospective at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in 2015.

Unlike most of his contemporaries, Doig does not churn out loads of works as if he’s running a production line instead of a studio and he works alone. So when you buy an original Doig you can rest assure that it came straight from the artist himself. This opportunity to see his new work should not be missed!

Peter Doig: New Works is on view until 22 December 2012. Michael Werner Gallery is located at 22 Upper Brook Street, Mayfair.
