Is Banksy Starring in a Primetime TV Show?

Clip from US crime drama White Collar

He’s been on TV before (Exit Through the Gift Shop, 2010 and The Antics Roadshow, 2011), well sort of since he’s always blocking out his face, but is it true that the  infamous street artist known as Banksy has appeared in the US crime drama White Collar?

In short, the answer is no but, the show did feature a Banksy character in a recent episode.

The lead character, Neal Caffrey, played by Matt Bomer is a crafty forger/conman who has been recruited by the FBI to catch criminals specialising in art theft. The show’s focus has previously involved the theft of old master paintings and antiquities but now in it’s fourth season, the storyline has touched on more contemporary issues.

For instance, in a recent episode, Caffrey impersonated the illusive Banksy, though he was not nearly as “street” as the original, to gain access to a prestigious gallery which was part of a heist. Plastered across the interior wall of the gallery a Banksy-esque stencil proved to be a worthy imitation.

The show, albeit a bit cheesy (just check out the fake Banksy pictured above) is lighthearted and good fun, worth checking out if you like art and/or crime dramas.
