A gold, diamond and ruby Christmas ornament is certainly a far cry away from the traditional stringed popcorn as far as Christmas tree decor goes. (See A Charlie Brown Christmas for reference). But in this case, the extravagance is for a good cause, well partly. At least 15% of the proceeds from the £82,000 sale price will go to the National Autistic Society (NAS). Embee Jewels of London in association with Hallmark Jewellers have designed an 18ct white gold Christmas bauble encrusted with 1,578 diamonds totaling 18.64 carats. It is surrounded by two rings featuring 188 red rubies and three Roman Rub-over set one-carat diamonds. The bauble features a snowflake cut out pattern and comes in a bespoke handmade wooden box.Sounds like an amazing work of art, but we should all remember the true spirit of Christmas; it’s not about expensive balls.
