New York Gallery Week

In an effort to draw attention to the amazing galleries in NYC – 50 Manhattan-based contemporary art galleries and a few non-profit organisations are launching the pilot program - New York Gallery Week.

Throughout the week, visitors can satiate their art fix with over
50 solo gallery exhibitions; informal talks by artists; guided gallery tours by artists, curators, art historians and gallery staff; panel discussions; film screenings; book signings; performances and special artist receptions. And the best part is that all of it is free to the public.

The main focus is on solo exhibitions. The idea is to enable visitors “to recognize and celebrate that singular moment in time when an individual artist’s vision is cohesively presented in one gallery space, prior to when the works are sold and redistributed to collectors, museums, and elsewhere.” It should be interesting to see how each gallery transforms depending on which artist they are exhibiting in what seems to me an breakneck assembly line of exhibitions.
